First of all, welcome to QMHJs brand new blog! We’re thrilled to invite you to be a part of this exciting new project. We hope that we can create a blog that truly reflects the vast array of talent and interests that the students of history here at QMUL have to offer.
We’d like to take this opportunity to quickly tell you what this blog is all about. As many of you may know, QMHJ publishes themed essays once a month online and printed journals biannually. This gives QM’s undergraduate history students a great platform for showcasing their best work. However, the range and scope of the work from students in the school of history is far too broad (and the journal too small!) for every piece of brilliant work to be given an opportunity to shine. This blog provides a more open platform for a greater variety of themes and styles of writing. It also aims to be a far more relaxed enviroment, promoting discussion and debate amongst our readers.
We accept everything from those pesky primary source essays to book reviews. As stated above, we can include a wider variety of essay and comment pieces than the published journal, in a far less formal manner. There’s no strict word requirement either, though the current aim is to publish pieces shorter than 2000 words, which often don’t get to feature in the published journal. Importantly, we’re not too fussed about footnotes, allowing for you to write more general comment pieces and reviews for us. At this point it’s a very fluid project so we can get as many submissions published as possible!
Please send your submissions to firstname.lastname@example.org
We look forward to reading your submissions and hope you all get involved!
